Yeah, those are both V8 engines, you're going to have to haul around the weight of the Sequoia and cargo and that's going to eat up a lot of fuel. V8s aren't known for their gas mileage.

Toyota rims are lug centric I believe whereas most other vehicles are hub centric. It's normal, overheating is when smoke/steam is pouring out of the engine compartment. When I had my Tacoma, it ran a little above middle for its whole life. Just make sure you flush the coolant out every 2 years or 30K miles and you'll be fine.
