  1.

Hi all...Once again I am asking for your knowledge and assistance in order to avoid the dreaded dealer. Great people and great forum.  I just reviewed the forum and could not find an answer to the following:  I have a 2017 Tacoma Access Cab TRD 4x4 Off Road.  I have recently noticed that I cannot shift into S1 above 20MPH but can below 20MPH.  If I try to shift into S! before 20MPH I hear a "Beep Beep sound" which is perhaps a warning sound associated with the transmission not allowing the shift into S1 below 20MPH.

    1.  Can someone verify for me whether this is what you are experiencing if you have a 2017 Tacoma.

    2.   Is the Beep Beep sound I hear before I can shift into S! a notice type of thing since I can sheft into S! below 20MPH.

    3.  Is the situation I described above normal for my transmission and that I do not have a transmission problem but is normal for my transmission?

Thanks for your knowledge and facts in advance.

  2. I would appreciate your comments on the following:  When I turn the wheel left or right, with the hood open and the engine running, I hear this click and the engine revs.   Perhaps its normal or possibly associated with a power steering pump or relay that is activated when I turn the wheel.  What do you all think could be or not be the problem.  The forum has more expertise than I do.

Awaiting your response and thanks in advance.

  3. I wanted to start a new a new discussion concerning the slip yoke issue on the 3rd Gen Tacomas because of some things I have noticed. I have a 2017 Tacoma TRD Off Road 4x4. The issue with the slip yoke is a knock/clunk when slowing down for a stop sign or red light.
    1. When in "D" and I pull up to a stop sign in a rather going fast manner and begin to apply the brakes to stop, I usually hear that thump/clunk. But if I pull up to a stop sign and apply the brakes slowly and slowly come to a stop...I do not usually hear that thump/clunk..
    2. .Also, if I drive in "S 6" mode, and no matter how I pull up to a stop sign be it fast or slow, I do not hear the thump/clunk in that high gear......STRANGE.

Your thoughts moving forward are appreciated...thank you

  4. Hi all...I am a new member and am delighted to be part of such a knowledgeable  group of fellow Toyota Tacoma folks.

Here is my dilemma:    I have a 2017 Tacoma trd off road 4x4.  After I start the vehicle in the AM and then start to drive, when I come to a stop sign and start to slow down to stop, right before I stop and have the brakes applied, I hear a knock or thump coming from the rear of my Tacoma.  It seems to happen as if the transmission is downshifting.  I have been doing a little research on this and have been given suggestions that the slip yoke may need to be greased. But as you all know, my 2017 does not have a grease zerk to grease the slip yoke. Also, is the slip yoke located on the rear drive shaft coming from the rear differential or the smaller drive shaft coming from to transfer case to the front axle. And it appears I would have to remove either both or just one of the drive shafts? How many slip yokes are on my Tacoma.

I kinda know that the transmission on the 3rd generations have their issues.  But I am asking for your thoughts on this matter and if you think I have a transmission or other type problem or if this issue I mentioned is the nature of these transmission issues and it is something I just have to live with and that this is no problem and just keep driving.

Anyway, I took the truck to the dealer and they said they would have to diagnose the issue and that it could possibly cost me $120.00 plus the parts to fix if necessary. Greasing the slip yoke is a maintenance issue to the dealer and would have to be paid out of pocket

So kind ladies and gentlemen, do I have a problem and if so your thoughts on the matter, should I take my Tacoma to the dealer, or can I do this, grease the slip yoke, on my own.

Thanks for your feedback in advance.
