JCW

Does anybody know how to open the fuel tank lid to replace fuel pump? I have already unhooked electrical and fuel lines. I need to remove the ring, so I can replace the fuel pump. I tried to tap it with the round chisel and a hammer but can't turn the ring loose. Please help. Thank you.
