  1. Alright, so I have a 2008 Rav4, which I love, but as of recently it's been giving me some problems. The most recent one happened today, I drove to a near store and when I started up the car the engine started stalling (wanting to shut off) I turned off the car waited a couple of minutes and then started up just fine. Drove home, let it cool for a bit before checking it out and turns out the oil dip stick was DRY!!! No OIL what so ever. Now, after purchasing the Rav a couple of years back, I found out through online research about the recall notice for these vehicles due to a bad o-ring. The previous owner did not know about this and never replaced it so I'm stuck with it! Has anyone done this type of work on a Rav and if so, what's the approximate cost? Or any other recommendations. Thank you.
  2. thaks for the reply, i actually took the vehicle in into a toyota specialize shop and they had to replace the gear module, not sure what it is exactly but that fixed the problem. the mechanic told me that item sits outside of the transmision and it tells the car which gear the car is in, after replacing this default piece the display looks all normal now.
  3. Ok...Not really sure how to begin here, but I have a 2008 Rave 4 and as of recently when ever I switch to D all available options appear with a square around the gear, when I'm driving the R for reverse appears black, N for neutral also appears. Now, there's no physical problem nor does it affect the driving conditions of the vehicle. Please see the image in case what I'm explaining does not make a whole lot of sense. Has anyone encountered this before?IMG_2540 2.HEIC Thanks for the help gang.
  4. Thank you so much for replying to this. So, since I reported the incident of the car shutting down when downshifting to Neutral it has not happened since then. However, the L remains ON on the gear dashboard. I'm going to take a picture of it so I can show it, maybe that my clear up what I'm trying to explain. I'm planning on taking it in to a shop here that specialize on Toyota's.
  5. Team, Has anyone experienced a flashing L (with a square around it) right next to your D while driving? Not sure what this could be an indicator of but it started happening today. Anyone?
  6. Hey, Has anyone come across and issue where your toyota completely shuts down when placed in Neutral? My car's engine shuts down when in neutral, i can turn it back on without any issues and then put in on drive, but if I change gears from drive to park and pass 'neutral' the car will then shut off again. Anyone out there experienced this issue?
  7. Hi Pharel, Rav4's are a great car to buy! I would however, look into a problem that was detected back in 2011, read more here -----> https://www.choisserimports.com/what-to-do-about-toyotas-excessive-oil-consumption.php I currently own a 2008 that was affected by the issue mentioned in the link provided. Other that all I can recommend is to make sure that you keep all services up to date, Toyota's are made to last when taking proper car of all services. I hope this helps in any way.
  8. Hello Everyone, I have a 2008 Rav4 with about 110,000 miles on it, second owner, I love my Rav. As of recently I started to noticed that when down shifting from P to D the car shuts down COMPLETELY! (as if you were to turn it off from the ignition) when passing N (neutral). I able to turn it back on in Neutral and drive off, but whenever I shift up or down and pass N the car shuts down. What I have done recently to the car; well, back in September the battery died on me and I replaced it with a battery from a local walmart, can't remember the name of the brand, but I don't know if that would be the problem. I've done mechanical jobs to the Rav but all related to suspension work. Also, the Rav4 currently has an engine code related to the catalytic-converter, which I haven't replaced yet as that is a very expensive part, but other than that there are no other codes. Not sure if any of you have experience this or know of anyone that did, but any help will be really appreciated. Thank you.
