  1. Hello Carol, I have found the information provided on the Car Care Nut YouTube channel to be excellent. If you haven't seen it, Amhed is a Toyota Master Diagnostic Technician with many years of experience in a dealership, and now as an independent. I am aware of several videos where he talks about changing the transmission fluid. Basically, if it has under 100K you can do a drain and fill (not a flush). You are right about the "sludge"; if you haven't had a transmission service before 100K then the transmission may start slipping if you flush it and get rid of the sludge. I love his series on maintenance. Cindy

  3. Currently driving a 2018 RAV4, daughter 1 owns a 2005 Camry with a bazillion miles, daughter 2 owns a 2012 Camry with 100k+ miles. I have a 2007 Sequoia about to be posted for sale, and sadly the 96 4WD 4Runner (sob) died a few years ago... Meanwhile, I have been banned from some Honda CRV forum because I said I'd never but another Honda... go figure. 🙂 Glad to be here.

  5. Have a two door 1994 v6 Camry coup gray for sale. (has 182,000 miles on it). This car was my wife's car, and then all three children used this car before during and after college. It is an amazing vehicle, and my goal was to restore this family car to the original condition. It has dents and scraps and needs a complete paint job. The dash needs to be replaced due to cracks and heat damage of thirty years of Arizona, and it needs transmission work and many other little things to bring back to original condition. Local restoration places have cost around 10K to restore to original condition, which I would love to do, but because of health issues I just cant afford it or the ability to do some of the work myself. You can find them once in awhile for 8k/10k on the web, so it is a long term investment. They are year by year harder to find. So I'm looking to sale this to someone whom who would recondition this car, know the history of it and be pound to own this Camry that was made in Japan in 1994 as the first year they introduced the two door coup. Have loved this car for so many years, and has a lot of history, I even still have original window sticker. Yes it needs restoration. and yes it 30 years old, but still has its has amazing power for a two door car, and like they said, the car will outlive its owner. The right person can see this car would be a great car to own and restore. Two door coupes are getting rarer and rarer, but its about the car and how well it rides and drives that puts the joy in owning it. Anyone who would like photos and other information, please reach out to me at my email. Thank you tlwomack@outlook.com

  9. Greeting from So. Cal, Just picked up a well maintained White 2007 4cyl Base 2FWD Highlander with 163K miles from a family member. This is my first Toyota and purchased as an extra vehicle for light duty work and recreational excursions. Figured it is more practical than a small pick up. Not to sound snobbish, I own two 5 series BMW's and have for the last 3 decades but I have to say, this little SUV is a gem to drive and I really like the simplicity not to mention the ride is surprisingly comfortable. Looking to purchase a set of tires......an HT with a slightly more aggressive tread "yet" on the quiet side. Don't know if that's possible but if anyone has a set which fits my description, I'd love to hear your feedback. Installed Hi/Low LED's (Game Changer), Engine detailed, Tow hitch be installed this week after I complete a full detail on her.

  13. My dad may he rest, owned and operated his own auto repair business in Los Angeles for 41 years. Specializing in MG's Jaguars, and Austin Healey's, shortly before he got tired of "twisting nuts and bolts", he considered taking on repair of some of the Japanese cars including Toyota. He never got there however, and the manuals I'll be listing were set aside and have been in storage for 50 years. This volume, was never used in any shop environment other than sitting in his library of repair manuals never to be used. Great photos of the manual are available, showing that while the cover has some surface dirt, the bindings are strong as new - I hesitated to open this book up too wide to photograph, as it feels that brand new - The individual pages, artwork, and text are in as new, excellent condition, no smudges, finger prints or any other type of blemish. $50.00 - Will ship to Lower 48 Free via US Postal Service

  14. Thanks for letting me join. Just to let everyone know that I do not own a Corolla. It's actually my daughters, however, Her car is pretty cool. I'll post pics of it later, but she has sticker bombed it with and I am not exaggerating when I say with 10,000 stickers.

  15. I just found out that remote start on my new 2023 Camry is considered a "service" that I will have pay a subscription for AFTER I already purchased the vehicle. What else is considered a "service" maybe the power windows? The trunk? The brakes? How far do you go with this insanity Toyota? I buy a 40k car and you have the audacity to charge me monthly to use the buttons on my key fob? NEVER again. This buisness model is extortion and you will fail. I hope miserably. I was so happy with my new car until I found out I was being ripped off. SHAME on you Toyota.

  16. Howdy fellow Avvy owners. I bought a '12 Base in excellent condition back in '17. Was about to get a Camry but sister suggested I look at Avvys and was amazed to find them priced same and even cheaper. Got it with 35k on it, now up to 90k. I split the driving time between it and my truck. During the 55k I have had absolutely no problems whatsoever w it. Love everything about so much I bought a second one, '15 XLE Touring, 68k and in excellent cond, needed tires and brakes. I've put Bridgestone Turanza Quiettracks on both cars. I figured between these 2 Avvy's I can count on at least a quarter million more miles trouble-free luxury sedan cruising, especially the way I baby them. I thought since I own 2, I better get connected. Not too mechanically savvy, so I'm sure I'll be asking more questions than answering them, but glad to be here!

  19. New to the forum. I got my 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross last December and love it! Except for google maps, lack of cd player and the requirement that you have to have your phone in your car to have a working screen. I was driving a 2003 Corolla and it was a lot less stressful to listen to my tunes. I do love my heated seats.

  20. My thought is that I think it affects access to feature on my radio. I can’t adjust the radio touchscreen settings because the radio says I’m “driving” when I have the key turned to ACC. So the radio may default to driving mode unless it receives a signal from VSS.

  22. My 19 year old son from Ireland has just started his first year of college in Arkansas ,USA. Having just obtained his USA drivers permit we would like to buy him a car due to no on-campus accomodation and as he lives a 20 minutes drive to college and travels there and then to baseball training each day. As all of my other kids in Ireland had older Toyotas as their first car and, I wanted to buy my son a similar car while he is at college in the USA. If there is anyone who might have an older Corolla or Camry or similar for sale please could you respond to my post. Thank you , Enda

  25. Hello everyone, I am new to Toyota Owners Club but not new to Toyotas. I've had my 1978 Corolla Liftback since 2009, and I love it! Both my windshield and rear glass (on the hatch) leak terribly when it rains. The gaskets are dry and cracked, and quite obviously need to be replaced. The trouble is that I cannot find replacements anywhere! I am hoping that some kind person on this forum has an idea of where I could get them. The original gaskets used chrome-colored plastic inserts, but I'd be just as happy with all-black "California-style" gaskets, depending on what's available. Because there were so many different body styles for Corollas during this time, I've attached a picture of mine below. The chassis number is TE51. My understanding is that the different body styles (sedan, wagon, liftback, etc.) all used different windshields, and therefore different windshield gaskets as well. Thank you for your help! Adam

  29. It’s not the drive cables! Toyota is using plastic worm gears that can strip just from your weight in normal traffic! Very very poor quality designed to provide work for Toyota service departments. Very very very dangerous and negligent design. My advice is to avoid purchasing Toyota/Lexus products made after 2021. The are the Japanese Ford now! They have a new “Design for profit”. Trade in or fox choice!

  30. I just took delivery of a GH Platinum. Not the hybrid model (wish I could've found one in the color scheme I wanted!). But I do have the DRVM. I can't answer your question specifically but I can tell you that I will rarely, if ever, use it. Reason is that when I switch to the DRVM from the standard mirror, it plays with my eyes. Hard for my eyes to adjust to it and focus for some reason. Don't get me wrong, the DRVM works very well. It's just that because the mirror is only 18-24" from my eyes, it's difficult for me to focus on it after looking at the road during a drive. I have to look at the mirror for a few seconds longer than normal to actually see what's in the view vs. a standard mirror where it's an instantaneous view. And I don't like taking my eyes off the road for that long. Could be different for you but for me, I don't think I would order one if my model didn't come with it installed already.

  31. Just do what is is the owners manual. There is everything you need to know. Low yearly mileages doesn’t mean oil won’t degrade. Specially short distances and circumstances where the oil hardly reaches its desired temperatures will degrade oils, no matter if its synthetic or not. An engine that won’t be able to build up its temperature will have moisture in the oil pan. As a consequence, rust may occur on parts that once affected, will be extra vulnerable for oxidation. Draining such oil will also drain the moisture with it, no matter if the oil is crystal clear like new fresh from the can oil. And keep in mind that the temperature gauge in the instrument cluster sais nothing about the oil temperature at all. True, the RAV4 engines warm up very fast due to the clever motor management. As a consequence, the oil will warm up quicker than on conventional cars that have cam driven water and oil pumps. Stay on the safe side and do what’s in the book. You did not invent these engines.

  32. If you live in the rust belt of the United States the answer is NO. That's just my opinion. It would be easier to by a newer Avalon in better shape with the same amount of miles for around $5K.

  36. Just curious, does anyone from Toyota USA ever look at this forum or listen to consumer input? I would think if they did, the would want to do something to try and keep existing customers and to gain new ones. Letting the dealership add stupid high addendums just because they are not smart enough to know how and what to order should be the first thing they address. I have never (and never will) pay MSRP let alone MSRP plus. The second thing I think the may want to do is realize where their headquarters are located. Every car sold in Texas should come standard with ventilated seats or at least available on all models....not just the high end. If it where standard, it would be cheaper for Toyota and a great selling point. I really wanted to buy a new Camry hybrid model but can only locate The addendum feature is now making me look to Kia and Huydai. I do wish Toyota would be better.

  37. Hello, My first post as a new member. This November will mark the 18th anniversary of IMO the best automotive decision that I ever made. In 2005 I bought my Toyota 4runner Limited V8. I have never had a better experience. Best vehicle I've ever owned! My thoughts in joining the forum is to not only to give the car it's kudos but also to see what others experiences and recommendations are as my 4runner begins to pass into the +200K mark. I recently had the recommended 100K timing belt replacement. Not that there was a problem, but the service really smoothed out the ride. Literally runs quiet and as smooth as silk. I'm committed to keeping her into the next stage. Please share your thoughts. I'd like to try to be proactive in extending the life of my ride. Incredible SUV 2005 4runner Limited V8

  40. I am starting a new thread for owners with high mileage vehicles. Please post 'impressive' numbers and share any repairs/maintenance outside of the ordinary experienced during your journey. Maybe our fellow owners can learn from others and have an idea of what repairs to expect as miles accrue.

  44. Hi there, I am new here too, as of like just a few seconds ago. This is one of the most asked ?'s on all of the Tundra forums. At any rate, just wanted to respond here although I know it's been almost a month. "Best" oil is subjective. Personally, as long as you use oil that meets the recommended specs and change it frequently (every 5k IMO), it's hard to go wrong really. However, I recently did some research myself and decided to switch to 5w-30 (I always use synthetic or synthetic "blend" at least). The reason I switched is that others indicated that the engine seemed to be a bit more "quiet".. i.e. less pings / tings or whatever. So far it definitely sounds better to me. Disclaimer: This is all my opinion and in no way stated as fact, for the record. 🙊

  46. Hi. I'm obsessed with riding. On my Highlander 2018, I keep a bike rack. I enjoy riding my bike in the mountains. Before I acquired a new job in town, I used to go there every weekend. I purchased a Hitch-style Bike Rack from here. This rack style was chosen because it enables for the safe movement of a bike from one location to another. The type of bicycle rack you need will be determined by the vehicle you drive. A hitch-mount rack is also useful for vehicles such as minivans.

  47. Sorry for the late reply....did you find a roof rack yet? Fitting an aftermarket air filter can improve air flow and also may clean the air better so less contamination in the engine....cleaner air and more of it 🙂 However, it can also affect the fuelling which may actually affect economy but so will fitting a roof rack. K&N make a superb replacement air filter element which is reusable by cleaning and refitting and gives many other benefits over standard filters
