  1. I would go with a 2" bore, a new catalyst converter (make sure it's CA legal, some shops won't change it if there isn't anything wrong with the one you have. A hammer will fix this), and whatever tip you like. I would try the cherry bomb muffler available at most Autozones which is about standard size and won't sound like a pissed off weed eater. Cost here if you all ready have the muffler and converter is $140 at Mr Muffler. I would put on a aftermarket intake, 2" bore exhaust, and do a full synthetic oil change. Should give you around 10-18 more HP. Look into getting custom cams built and a programmable ECU to really take advantage of the bigger intake/exhaust. Might as well port and polish the head while it's off, switch to higher compression pistons, and get a custom head gasket made of metal to further push your HP and torque up. Good luck, Rock
  2. Would I be able to swap the heads on a 4A-FE with 4A-GE? What is different on the engines? Would I need a new ECU? Can I swap the cams from a 4A-GE with a 4A-FE? Last but not least, would it be cost effective to swap a 4A-FE with a 4A-GE? Thanks! EDIT Found other posts, should search before posting.
  3. May not help too much but my 98 GMC Jimmy (which is on its 4th transmission) did this right before it failed totally. Maybe a day later it would not shift at all and the tranny made a horrible winding noise. It was the "sun shield" going out.. Best way to check is to drop the tranny pan and look for metal shards or other crap. If all is well, replace the tranny filter and fill up a half bottle of Lucas Transmission Fix (very good stuff) and top off with ATF or whatever you use while the engine is HOT and RUNNING, otherwise you will overfill it accidentally. Other than that if you can't do transmission work yourself buy a used tranny in advance before taking it to the repair shop and it will save you a few hundred.
  4. I went to my local junkyard and picked up 4 rims with decent tires for under $20. My brother went out last week and found some Kong 18's and they let them go for $75. Never know what you will find.
  5. I've jacked using the center beam the only trouble is that the jack slips forward sometimes. I put my stands either in the holes on the "sway bar" or where they connect to the frame with no problems. If the car would bend on it's own weight on the suspension then I wouldn't want to drive it..
  6. It works exactly like this Link And if you actually want performance try this
  7. You can try the water temp mod to advance timing to 10 and increase fuel trim to 2300RPM for a few bucks. Link
  8. Don't forget the tranny filter and clean the magnets in the pan. I've recently done this and it's easy to go ahead and change it and the filter comes with new pan seals. I used a half bottle of Lucas tranny fix and filled the rest up (while hot). My car has 168K miles and it looks like the fluid was never changed but the tranny shifts perfectly and even better now I changed the blood.
  9. Yes the threaded holes are to put bolts in to remove the drum. Evenly turn the bolts until your drum comes off. I would get some strong bolts so they won't snap in the holes since most drums are really stuck.
