Turn signal problem

I have a 1987 Celica GT Convertible.

When I move the turn signal lever for a right hand turn everything works as it should.

When I want to make a signal for a left hand turn, I can move the lever 1/2 way and the exterior turn signal lamp works, the flashing green arrow in the dash works, everything is normal.

BUT, if I move the lever completely down as I would normally, I get a buzzing behind the instrument panel, there is no longer a flashing green arrow in the dash, and the exterior turn signal lamp quits being illuminated. If i move the lever back up to the 1/2 way point everything works again.

It never blows a fuse or circuit breaker.

Anyone had a similar problem, or can offer a suggestion of where to start looking ??

Thanks in advance.
