miles
I drive an '08 Prius and accidentally left my key in the car; got out and locked the door inside as I was shutting the door. This time it locked. Usually, it will beep at me and won't lock if I've left the key in the car. I thought maybe the battery was dead in the key, but, it works fine to open the car or start the engine. Any suggestions? Leighcm
Where did you leave the key in the car? There's a few dead spots.

Leighcm
The only thing I can think of is that the battery is starting to get a little low...not dead, but low. Change the battery, and test it again.
Joseph Elder
I noticed that the 2016 4 runner limited with an electronic key can be turned off while in gear. This would allow the car to roll if not in fully in park. A traditional key cannot be removed from the ignition unless the car is placed in park. Seems odd that Toyota was able to circumvent the the park/ key removal safety feature Not sure I like the fully electronic key, I'm envisioning several safety and reliability issues.
