darkpower
hello, i've got a 2004 highlander with 117,000 miles. everything is fine. i've onle done things like brakes, wipers, oil/filter changes, tires........ besides checking the timing belt for wear and cracks, etc.....is there a ballpark mileage that when reached the belt should be replaced and how big of a job is it? thanks, dp
Leighcm
Any newer Toyota/Lexus product with a timing belt recommends changing it every 90k...you're a little overdue. If you have a dealer do it, it's several hundred bucks. If you do it yourself, the part is cheap, maybe $50-$75, but the job itself is a pain. darkpower
thanks, also i guess this job should include a water pump replacement, serpentine belt, seals and gaskets, antifreeze....??
Leighcm
thanks, also i guess this job should include a water pump replacement, serpentine belt, seals and gaskets, antifreeze....?? Belts, plugs, etc., yes...water pump, not necessarily so. It's the biggest maintenance required, and it is important. My old Camry had two of these services done, and it was still running like a 50k miles car at 175k when I sold it. It may be expensive, but it's better than buying a new car or new engine...
