  1. Took my year old Avalon Hybrid Premium in for service and asked about the Navigation System updates. New roads are opening frequently, so the navigation maps are already quite dated after only one year. Quoted a cost of $500 (software + labor) to update. I was quite surprised by such a high cost. I have a Garmin with lifetime updates for a flat cost of less than 1/2 that. How does Toyota justify (or even hope to compete) with such a costly and quickly obsolete navigation system when compared to other quality navigation systems that can be used instead?
